Well the decade of wealth and exuberance is gone. For quite a few Americans those types of luxuries like new cars are now gone. Now in these times when a family is in need of a new car they have to look into a used car.  This is evident in all of the financial problems the big 3 carmakers are having.  There sales are down.

But families will still be needing a form of transportation. But when families are on a tight budget they have to go with a cheaper choice. That alternative choice is a used car.

As a San Diego auto repair shop owner I am asked to inspect some of these used cars.Because when you have decided to buy that used car, you do not want to purchase a lemon.  So by getting a proper inspection done you can avoid costly problems.

So when you are looking over these cars remember these couple of items to inspect.  First you want to check the brakes.  We do San Diego brake in our shop.So I know from experience that having to repair brakes can be very costly.  If you purchase a car that the brakes weren’t maintained it could become expensive. The last thing you want to have to pay for is an entire braking system.  So make sure the brakes are good.

Second, take care to make sure that it is able to run clean.  In other words can it pass a smog test.  In my business I do San Diego smog check.  The last thing you want is to purchase a car that will need expensive repairs.  Especially if those repairs involve emission problems.

If you purchase a car that can’t pass a smog test that isn’t good.It is a sign of a previous owner not taking care of it.What probably happened is they didn’t do any tuneups or oil changes.  These could lead to more problems in the long run.

If you take the time to inspect a couple of items you will save a lot of money. By not inspecting you can lead yourself into some big repairs.  When you are trying to save money I am sure you don’t want that.
