This is the question we all ask ourselves when first thinking of purchasing a digital camera. What will you use your camera fo?

Once you have decided to move to the digital era you want to decide on which camera will suit your particular needs. Today, you can choose from many types of cameras as well as name brands.

Some of the cameras on the market today include the AF SLR Series, Digital Compacts, Film Compacts, Direct Vision, etc. You can purchase cameras today with camcorders built-in for small movie projects, or cameras that include a phone. It is amazing what you can find on the market today when looking for a digital camera?

At a formal time we discussed film and digital compact cameras, as well as the AF SLR series, today we are going to discuss the Direct Vision Cams along with a few other models. If you are off to the amateur division photography scene then you may want to look at the line of direct vision cameras offered by Leica. Few of these direct vision action takers offer high quality pictures while its sounds are nearly noise pollution free.

The 35mm camera is commonly used by photographers and I want to look at the Range Finders. This model or its like has a variety of features including the viewfinder, battery compartment, self-timer, rangefinder, rewind crank, rewind button, lens, PC socket, film speed dial, and so on.

The Rangefinder has a focusing mechanism which allows the photographer to measure the subject distance and take photographs that are in sharp focus. If you want to include yourself in the photo self-timers are incredibly useful for delaying when a photo is taken. There are a few cameras that only allow a few seconds before a photo is taken.

Many of the direct vision cameras have hot-shoes, shutter speed dial, wind-on levers, frame counters, and shutter release buttons. Some cameras are more optional than others for the pros in the field of digital photography.

Other varieties of cameras include the Mega-Pixel Camcorders, Large Formatting Cams, Instant Cams, Imaging Phones, and Hasselblad XPans 2 and so on. If you plan on purchasing a camera phone you need to understand that the included camera is not necessarily the best for photography even though you should be able to transfer your photos to your computer. Camera phones are great when you are on the road taking photos and want to put them on your computer quickly. Bluetooth phones make it easy to transfer your photos directly to your computer.

Another option is mega-pixel phone camcorders which are great if you want to create web pages or home movies. The low pixels and resolution puts this camcorder out of market for publishing quality photos outside of the Internet. It is still quite handy for making movies and playing them back. It’s sort of like an Ipod, yet you have a cam built in.

Instant cameras are obviously not a choice for photographers, unless you have a quickie in mind. Many are familiar with the old Polaroid camera which was, at one time, one of the most popular cameras on the market. Since there were no photo developing costs there were quite popular with professional as well as amateur photographers. This was the primary reason I used the Polaroid. Today Fuji has an Instax camera which has taken the place of Polaroid.

Hasselblad has a 35mm camera that is popular. The camera was originally designed by Fuji and can easily switch to a panoramic mode of shot. Hasselblad is an incredible camera and puts you in mind of old-modern technology cameras, since it does more than its history defines. By now we have looked at a variety of the cameras available on the market as well as the accessories available and it is now up to you to decide which will best meet your needs.

Will you want high or low resolution photos? What are your plans for the photos? Will you want high or low resolution photos? Is it your desire to become a professional photographer or will you be happy to stay in the amateur arena?

Spy cameras - nothing new here, right? Embedded cameras have been around for years, but now they are becoming more affordable and in more products for the average consumer. Here we’re going to talk about some of the various types of cameras that are available right now.

Kicking off our list is the calculator spycam. It’s a desktop calculator with a very small video camera embedded in its side. It is well disguised, because it really functions as a calculator. Expect to get at least 25 frames per second at a 320×240 resolution. Also look for multiple video and photo recording formats, such as AVI, MPEG4, and MP3.

Of course, we had to include a surveillance camera watch. These wristwatches look like those straight out of a James Bond movie. Chic looking, with the camera lens embedded in the face of the watch. One such watch, for example, has the lens well hidden in one of the numbers. Due to the smaller size, the video quality isn’t quite as nice as in a larger device. It is still remarkable for something you can get for under $200.

Another very spy movie-like device is spy cam sunglasses. These should take both video and photos. Look for a model that can shoot at least with a 1.3 Megapixel resolution. Again, under $200, you can turn into a secret agent fast.

Now let’s say you need to get some ariborne shots. Then get a spy plane! Perfect for recon! Most people wouldn’t even stop to think that a remote controlled plane could take photos or record video.

If you would rather keep things on the ground, then there are lots of options for RC cars and trucks with embedded cameras. You could even attach your own camera to an RC toy. Some will even instantly transmit video wirelessly to a headset or other screen.

If you have kids and want to keep an eye on the nanny or babysitter, then you’ll want something a bit different. A desktop calculator may not cut it as it won’t fit in in a child’s bedroom or the living room. Look around for toys that also have spycams embedded in them. Some of these will even record and transmit in real-time (like a webcam). Some can even be viewed over the Internet. Then all you need to see what’s going on at home, is a computer and Web browser hooked up to the Internet.

You can see a full roundup of specific examples of these embedded spycam devices at this popular electronics gadget blog.
